The Method Behind the Tape
Kinesiology Taping is also known as Medical Taping among the healthcare professional. The basis of the Medical Taping Concept method was created in Japan and Korea in the seventies. At the time innovative methods of taping were being developed, starting from the idea that movement and muscle activity are essential in maintaining and recovering health. This taping method was fundamentally different from the conventional taping methods with rigid white tape. The non-elastic rigid tape is often applied for fixing or for immobilizing a joint.
Veterinary professionals who work to reduce pain, prevent injury or the recurrence thereof in animals (i.e. equine or canine rehabilitation and physical therapy), are now able to add this relatively new technique to their skills portfolio.
Development of the Medical Taping Concept
Worldwide there are nowadays physicians, physiotherapists, sports masseurs and skin therapists working in-line with the Medical Taping Concept. The Medical Taping Concept is a revolutionary method of treatment, which differs fundamentally from the conventional taping treatment methods. Nowadays special Medical Taping courses, given by certified MTC instructors, are offered to various professional groups in the public health sector all over the world. To many professional therapists, the Medical Taping Concept has become an essential addition in their practice.
The Medical Taping Concept was only introduced into Europe in the late nineties by the Dutch company FysioTape B.V., one of the founders of the THYSOL Group B.V. Together with an innovative group of “early adapter” physiotherapists, this kinesiology taping method was developed into the professional concept it is today.
Throughout the years, more evidence has been collected in various tape-applications for a range of injuries and medical problems. The current level of the medical knowledge about the fascia has given more substantiation and explanation why this method can be applied successfully.
